One climate-action journey, four distinct roles

This health-value work sits between a live behavior-change product, the nonprofit programme behind it, a technical implementation, and a proposed partner ecosystem. Keeping those roles clear is essential for credible health-sector conversations.

The relationship

From everyday action to partner-grade evidence

The layers reinforce each other, but they are not interchangeable. Product activity is not yet proof of health impact; modeled impact is not verified clinical outcome; and an ecosystem proposition is not the same as the nonprofit programme operating the beta.

01 · Product

ClimateActions beta

People discover challenges, complete climate-friendly actions, join teams, collect rewards and engage with local value partners.

02 · Evidence layer

ClimateActions × Health

This site maps actions to plausible health pathways, tests uptake scenarios, separates economic ledgers and defines what a partner pilot must measure.

03 · Scale ecosystem

Climate Action Institute

A proposed nonprofit impact-loyalty ecosystem connecting members, value partners, funders, municipalities and verified impact.

Interpretation boundary: “Proposed” describes the positioning published on the Climate Action Institute website. This page does not imply that the Institute has already clinically validated the beta or that all described funding flows are live.

Identity and accountability

Who does what?

Clear ownership protects partner trust, research integrity and public communication.

Public-facing product

ClimateActions

The beta presents itself as “ClimateActions by MYBLUEPLANET.” Its public metadata describes challenges, ClimateTokens and local partner redemptions. The product supports individual and team participation rather than a disease-specific care pathway.

Programme owner and delivery context

MYBLUEPLANET

MYBLUEPLANET describes ClimateActions as a practical climate-engagement programme for individuals, companies, clubs, hotels and cities. Its annual reporting links the app to challenges in nutrition, consumption, mobility and housing and to community activation across Switzerland.

Technical implementation

BigBluePlanet codebase

“BigBluePlanet” is the working repository and implementation context audited for this report. It contains the web app, action catalogue, surveys, teams, challenge templates, multi-tenant partner functions, ClimateToken mechanics and impact calculations. It should not be presented as a separate health institution or as a clinical evidence source.

Partner and funding proposition

Climate Action Institute

The Institute proposition expands the logic into a multi-stakeholder flywheel: verified actions can create member rewards, partner demand, funder transparency and municipal programmes. Health partners could add prevention expertise, outcomes governance and co-financing—but should not receive individual health data without a separate lawful consent and governance model.

What exists today

The beta is a substantial engagement foundation—not yet a health intervention

The distinction is a strength when stated plainly. Partners can see what can be used immediately and what a rigorous pilot needs to add.

Available foundation

  • 187 live actions across four everyday behavior domains
  • Teams, challenges, points, streaks and incentive mechanics
  • Multi-tenant organizations and partner-facing functionality
  • Surveys and product-event data suitable for an evaluation layer
  • Local value-partner redemption and ClimateToken concepts
  • A platform suited to municipalities, employers and community campaigns

Still needed for health claims

  • A health-safe action portfolio with contraindications and alternatives
  • Baseline and follow-up measurement of actual exposure
  • A comparison design for programme additionality
  • Clinical/content governance and adverse-event handling
  • Versioned Swiss carbon and health coefficients
  • Privacy-preserving partner evaluation and independent analysis

Health-sector role

Where a value partner can make the ecosystem materially stronger

The ideal partner does more than sponsor rewards. It helps transform engagement into safe, measurable and equitable prevention.

Evidence

Co-design the evaluation

Pre-register activity or active-travel outcomes, define a comparator, fund 90-day and 12-month follow-up, and publish negative as well as positive results.

Prevention

Reach beyond disease programmes

Use climate, community and rewards as an additional engagement route while keeping medical care, risk stratification and claims decisions separate.

Safety

Govern content and equity

Review nutrition, heat, cold and mobility actions; provide accessible equivalents; and ensure incentives do not penalize disability, income or unsafe infrastructure.

Scale

Fund verified value

Link future payments to measured reach, sustained exposure and independently reviewed outcomes—not to clicks or self-reported completions alone.

Recommended next move

A 12-month co-benefit evidence partnership

Select 20–30 high-potential actions, recruit a defined population, measure baseline, 90-day and 12-month outcomes, use a randomized encouragement or phased rollout where feasible, and pre-agree the evidence threshold for scale. The scenario lab can frame the business case; observed pilot data must replace its assumptions before any external ROI claim.
